IOWA HOG RALLY
THURSDAY July 15th
Well, today we did the longest day, mileage-wise that we have done; 425 miles. It was another day of miles of farmland. For nearly the entire 425 miles all we saw was corn fields on either side of the road as far as you could see. It’s little wonder they call this the Corn Belt. I wish I could come up with some corny joke, but my mind has flaked out on me. Oh well.
We stopped in Watertown, SD for breakfast at the IHOP and across the street was this huge mansion-like structure with very nice, manicured, almost park-like grounds in front. We asked our waitress what it was and she informed us it was an art gallery for Terry Redlind art (http://www.redlinart.com/). Pretty impressive building for one guys art work but he does some pretty nice work, I must say.
We arrived in Waterloo, IA this afternoon and got a room at the hotel that is hosting the Iowa State HOG (Harley Owners Group) rally. HOG has an annual contest in which you get points for certain things. It involves taking photos of your motorcycle in front of official signs in cities, states, HOG rallies, and a few other things. So, we got a photo here so we could get the point for a HOG rally. It is the only rally we could find along our route.
Tomorrow, we head to Champaign, IL where we will spend the night at a camp ground, do some laundry and then on Saturday we will arrive at Mike’s daughter’s house in Ft Knox.
Good night, sleep well and God bless.
